International Women’s Day 2019: Build Your Tribe

When I look back on many of my friendships with women throughout high school, college, and much of my 20s many of them were riddled with drama. It took me a long time to get to a place where all of the women I surround myself with are people who fill my tank up. Eliminating the negative energy was a trial and error process, but at long last I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I have finally built my tribe.

Every woman should have a tribe. Circles of women that are rooting for each other to succeed. Women that feel like your achievements are their achievements, your happiness is their happiness, and vice versa. Most importantly, this tribe knows that another woman’s light cannot dim theirs. We can all shine bright!

I am not telling you to cut women in your life like an episode of Survivor, but I am saying let 2019 be the year that you stop fighting to keep toxic friendships alive. Let those fizzle out naturally. Focus on cultivating deeper relationships with the women who have a positive effect on your life.

Check in on those women. Hype them up whether it’s something little or major. Go out of your way to connect with them individually and in groups. Don’t do it for the hope of something in return, but know that will likely be the result. Remember that you get what you give.

This International Women’s Day, let’s celebrate the amazing strong women in our lives. Let’s uplift each other, share in each other’s wins, and leave toxic behavior at the front door. Revel in your tribes, fashionistas!
